I remember walking in to my first real gym back in the late 70’s and seeing rows and rows of strength training machines. These machines were designed to isolate one muscle group at a time. Remember the chest press, shoulder press, leg press and so on. Now you walk in a gym and see TRX, kettlebells, dumbbells, stability balls, Bosu balls and so on.
Strength training has evolved to focus on working multiple muscle groups at a time which is considered “functional training”. This mimics real life movement.
Functional strength training equipment like free weights and kettlebells require your stabilizing muscles to work as well as your primary muscles. The complex movement requires balance, coordination and body awareness.
Injury can be avoided by learning proper technique. Join a small group training or invest in some sessions with a certified personal trainer to learn more.

Also, I made this simple, quick one dish dinner last night and it was a hit. Chicken Burrito Casserole by Stephanie Kay. (It’s gluten -free for those that require it)
Now get outside and enjoy this spring weather!
