You Say You Want a Resolution...🎼🎼🎼🎼

Happy New Year everyone! This can mean time to make a resolution for some people, others just keep plugging along with their method of staying fit. Well if you are like the 80% who have given up on their fitness goal by February here are some tips to help you avoid that. Find a training partner. You may be less inclined to ditch your workout when you know your training partner is at the gym expecting you. Work with a personal trainer. Being accountable to a professional trainer just makes you show up and work hard. As a trainer I have found offering partner training is really effective. This cost is split between 2 people and it’s actually more fun. Instead of focusing on the typical weight loss goal for the new year, try a wellness goal. Maybe you decide to try meditation or book yourself a monthly massage or plan to cook more this year. Whatever your goal is just keep it in your focus. Write it out and keep it where you can see it everyday.

Here is a “healthy granola recipe” from my friend and client Laura. Just try keeping this for longer than a week in your house.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1/4 cup oat bran
  • 2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp orange oil or lemon oil (available at Dennigers)
  • 1 cup macadamia nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dried black currants
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup apricots (any dried fruit will do)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spread first 3 ingredients on baking sheet and toast in oven for 5 minutes. Add coconut and bake for 5 more minutes. Remove from oven to cool. Reduce oven temperature to 300 degrees F. In a large bowl combine next 4 ingredients. Melt butter in microwave or stovetop and add honey and orange oil. Pour over the oat mixture and stir well to combine. Spread the mixture on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes stirring after 20 minutes. Let cool and break apart mixture into small pieces. Store in an airtight container. ENJOY!!!
