5 Tips to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle During the Holidays

  1. Eat a healthy meal before attending any holiday parties where appetizers and desserts will be available. That way you won't be as hungry and will be less tempted to overindulge in those treats. Everything in moderation!
  2. Cut down your own Christmas tree. Get outside, enjoy the outdoors and reap the fitness benefits of cutting down your own tree! Plus it makes for great holiday traditions and memories.
  3. Stay hydrated. This is important not only for keeping the flu bug away but also to keep you hydrated when enjoying your favorite beer or glass of wine. Try and drink a glass of water between each glass of your favorite drink to avoid pouring on the pounds.
  4. Get lots of rest. Aren't the holidays also meant for relaxing and catching up on the Zs? Between shopping, working and hoping from party to party it can be easy to lose sleep so try and get a consistent healthy amount of sleep (about 7-8 hours every night) to prevent fatigue, regulate hormones and recover from workouts.
  5. Keep snacks in your bag. When you are out shopping or running grocery errands before the big holiday dinner, bring a granola bar or a piece of fruit with you so that you don't feel the need to eat fast food.
Happy Healthy Holidays!
